ROOKE: Youngest Generations Embarrassing Themselves As They Turn 94-Year-Old Grandmother Into Spectacle

Nothing makes me more ashamed of my generation and those who follow than the story of a 94-year-old grandmother from a medieval Italian village becoming an internet sensation.
It’s not really the idea of social media-obsessed kids making pilgrimages to Margherita Ciarletta at her home in Scanno, Italy, that has me so riled up. But instead, the idea that instead of looking at her life and letting her experiences and example guide them, they’ve turned her into nothing more than an Instagram post
Ciarletta wears centuries-old traditional garb native to Scanno. On most days, it’s a simple wool dress with a scarf tied around her hair. After her sisters passed away, she became the last remaining link to a life before the internet, when daily work was hard but full of purpose.
“Before we worked hard, now that work has ended. It was a tough life, but we were all always together,” Ciarletta told CNN.
